Information handled when you use the site

Web requests and security logs

Our hosting systems may process your IP address, request path, date and time, browser user agent, referring page, and response status. This information is used to deliver the site, diagnose faults, prevent abuse, and protect the service.

Matomo analytics

We use a Matomo analytics installation hosted at pase-analytics.com to understand page views and link activity. The analytics server receives information such as the page visited, referrer, time of access, browser and device details, and your IP address. Matomo may use first-party analytics cookies, depending on its configuration and your browser settings. We use analytics to operate and improve Octetify, not to build advertising profiles.

DNS and network checks

When you run a DNS check, Octetify processes the name, IP address, record type, options, and expected values that you submit. Standard authoritative diagnostics are sent to Octetify's same-origin API. Global propagation checks are requested directly by your browser from Globalping, a service operated by the jsDelivr project. Globalping therefore receives the query and your network request information. Its API documentation says measurement results are typically available for up to seven days.

DNS names can reveal internal projects or infrastructure. Submit only public names and data that you are comfortable sending to Octetify and Globalping.

Shared reports

Creating a report link is optional. A report contains the selected DNS query settings and diagnostic results and is stored for up to seven days. Report links are unlisted but can be opened by anyone who receives the link, so treat the link as confidential. Ordinary checks are not stored in the report database.

Why we process this information

We process this information to provide the tool you requested, maintain security and reliability, measure use of the site, investigate errors, and improve the service. Where applicable law requires a legal basis, those purposes rely on performing the requested service, our legitimate interests in operating and securing Octetify, or consent where required.

Service providers and disclosure

Information may be handled by infrastructure and analytics providers that help us host, secure, and measure the service. DNS propagation measurements are also handled by Globalping. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business reorganization. We do not sell personal information.

Retention

Optional Octetify report snapshots expire after seven days. Globalping measurement availability is controlled by Globalping and is typically up to seven days for public API measurements. Operational logs and analytics records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security, troubleshooting, measurement, and legal obligations under the applicable system settings.

Your choices and rights

You can use browser controls to block or delete cookies and can choose not to run a network check or create a report. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of personal information, and to complain to a data protection authority.

International processing and security

Infrastructure, analytics, and Globalping probes may process information in countries other than your own. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no Internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Octetify is a general technical service and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children through account registration because the site has no accounts.
